Private Medical Insurance

PMI is insurance to cover the costs of receiving private hospital treatment. It has a long history, dating from pre-NHS days, when people paid into friendly societies which then helped members financially in times of need. Some PMI providers, such as BUPA, are still non-profit-distributing bodies. However, a number of commercial insurance companies also offer P.M.I. nowadays.
